The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy computer game was a text-driven adventure with no graphic content that loosely followed the storyline of the first novel. It is in the same style as the first Zork computer game. The player assumes the role of Arthur Dent (at first), finding themselves at home on the morning that their house is to be demolished.

It came with a number of fantastic feelies, including carboard "peril-sensitive sunglasses", a plastic baggie labelled "Microscopic Space Fleet", pocket fluff, an "Order for Destruction" of Arthur Dent's house, and a Vogon-language "Order for Destruction" of Earth. A translation is available at Mike Schiraldi's HHGTTG page .
