Paul is a real person, who wrote some appalling poetry. In fact, his poetry is considered to be the worst in the Galaxy, closely followed by that of the Azgoths of Kria and the Vogons.

In later revisions of the script the name was changed to Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings as, although Mr. Milne found his inclusion amusing, he insisted that his address not be used. The address was changed from Beehive Court, Redbridge to Wasp Villas, Greenbridge, Essex, England.

He died of pancreatic failure, almost three years after Adams' death, in 2004. It is presumed that his poetry was not a factor.
