Earth: Mostly Harmless.[1]
Earth was the third planet in a solar system in the Western Spiral Arm of the Milky Way. In reality, it was giant computer designed by the computer Deep Thought for the sole purpose of finding the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything to go along with the Ultimate Answer which was originally calculated by Deep Thought. The actual planet was built by the Magratheans.
Unfortunately, it was destroyed by the Vogons five minutes before the program was due to complete. Later on, it reappeared, but it (as well as any chance of it ever reappearing again) was demolished (again).
[edit] Lifeforms
Earth was(is) mainly populated by Humans, which measure around 6.5 billion at the time of the earth's destruction. The earth is also inhabited by a series of flora and fauna, including the mice and dolphins, the most and second most intelligent species on the planet respectively, with humans being the third.
Humans do not realize they are only the third most intelligent and are among the most ignorant and technologically backward people in the universe. (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
[edit] Notes
- ↑ This is only due to Ford Prefect changing it to Mostly Harmless, as originally it was just Harmless. Arthur Dent was somewhat annoyed at this.
